Howell Expands Through Acquisition of ePhase!

Based in West Chester, PA, since 1999, Howell,  through the acquisition of ePhase, will lead the ePhase team into this next chapter and continue the shared tradition of redefining the environmental assessment process to expand throughout the country.

News & Happenings

July 2021 – ePhase, Inc.. was chosen to provide environmental consulting services to a REIT acquiring post offices across the country. This project will involve performing environmental risk reviews, Phase I ESAs and advising the client as to the next steps of property acquisition. “This long-term project is a great fit for ePhase, Inc. as we do not providePhase II ESAs and the client is assured that our recommendations have the client’s best interest at hand” commented Sherrerd Steele, President of ePhase, Inc.


February 2020 – Starting off 2020 full steam ahead, Angela Price was promoted to Vice President, an ePhase, Inc. first! Ms. Price has been working tirelessly over the last year to grow ePhase in the Erie area market and has made great strides. In this short time, a few of her accomplishments include a large coal refuse project in Greene County, taking on leadership as the Young Erie Professionals (YEP) President and presenting to various industries/groups promoting awareness of environmental liability concerns. In addition to her responsibilities in the Erie, PA office, Ms. Price remains active in Southeastern Pennsylvania projects and client relations. Congratulations to Angela, we look forward to celebrating all of her future successes!


October 2019 – On October 6 and 7, 2019 Angela Price attended the Rising Rust Belt Summit in West Middlesex, Pennsylvania as a vendor and a supporter of regional economic revitalization. The summit was presented by three chambers in the Western Pennsylvania/Eastern Ohio region; Lawrence County Regional Chamber of Commerce, Shanango Valley Chamber of Commerce and Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber. This inaugural summit was sold out, attracting over 400 people with various ties to economic development; energy, manufacturing, higher education, health care, engineers and, of course, entrepreneurs. To many, the term Rust Belt, has a negative connotation but after hearing the speakers and meeting many passionate individuals we believe this term to stand for perseverance and resilience.


November 2018 – ePhase was awarded numerous strip coal mining Phase I ESA projects in the Hazelton/Shamokin/Centralia areas of Pennsylvania. Each mine ranged from 40 to 850 acres in size and included active mining, coal washing/separating, WWT, bagging, loading and vehicle repair operations. Portions of several of the mines had been fully reclaimed. This large-scale project included properties with numerous parcels, many buildings, multiple site activities and complex histories. ePhase was able to complete this project in less than one month.


August 2018 – ePhase is pleased to announce the opening of a new office in Worcester, MA. This office will be headed by Ms. Courtney Haffly, Senior Project Scientist/Manager. This office will manage all Phase I projects generated in Massachusetts and the surrounding states.


August 2018 – ePhase, Inc. is pleased to announce the opening of a new office in Erie, PA. This office will be headed by Ms. Angela Price, Senior Project Scientist/Manager. Ms. Price will providePhase I ESA services within a two-hour radius of Erie, PA and manage all projects generated in the region. We are excited about this period of accelerated growth and look forward to providing high quality, fast, and cost competitivePhase I ESAs to new and current clients in all of our now three offices.


March 2017 – Courtney Haffly, Senior Project Scientist/Manager from ePhase, Inc., was selected to be a panelist at EDR, Inc.’s Due Diligence at Dusk in Philadelphia. This well-attended event included information on local real estate trends and vapor encroachment issues. Courtney was one of two panelists presenting case studies of Phase I ESA findings and how to classify them as either RECs, CRECs or HRECs as per the ASTM standard. Sherrerd Steele, President of ePhase, Inc. attended the event and commented that “Courtney’s case studies on vapor encroachment were awesome. They truly stirred up some lively discussions from the audience members!”


January 2017 – ePhase was awarded a portfolio of properties for the anticipated installation of numerous solar panel carports throughout a large school district in Orange County, California. This project involved assessing over 30 separate photovoltaic array panel locations in parking lots of various district-owned properties. This project was ultimately performed in support of the school district’s generation and consumption of their own energy.


December 2016 – ePhase is pleased to announce the hiring of Courtney Haffly. She comes to ePhase with 11 years of diversified experience in the environmental consulting industry. Her experience includes acting as Project Manager for numerous Phase I ESAs and Phase II ESAs for commercial and industrial properties across the US where properties ranged from undeveloped lots to complex industrial facilities. “Courtney will round out our existing team of auditors with her specific industrial experience” says Sherrerd Steele, President of ePhase. “She comes to us with so much experience with client relations and will be responsible for leading the private sector group within ePhase. We are glad to have such a dynamic person on the team!” Her position is Senior Project Scientist/Manager.


September 2016 – ePhase announces the recent hiring of Angela Price as Senior Project Scientist/Manager. She comes to ePhase with over 11 years of experience in the environmental industry her last position of which was at Environmental Standards where she was responsible for much of the due diligence work within that organization. Sherrerd Steele, President of ePhase commented that “Angela is a great addition to the ePhase team! She has hit the ground running here and has already had a taste of some of our more challenging Phase I ESA projects.” Angela will be tasked with managing the merger/acquisition portfolios as well as sales and marketing.


November 2015 – ePhase, under partnership with Michael Baker International, was awarded a three-year contact by the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation for a USEPA Brownfield Assessment Grant. This grant requires ePhase to perform Phase I ESAs all throughout the Lehigh Valley on properties that are abandoned Brownfield properties or active, operating commercial businesses. Sherrerd Steele, President of ePhase, commented that “We are excited to foster the relationship with Michael Baker to service this long-term project!”


November 2013 – ePhase was awarded a long-term project by the Global Program Partners to perform Phase I ESAs in anticipation of the Philadelphia International Airport Runway expansion program. This project includes assessments of 1,000’s of acres in the Philadelphia and Delaware Counties area as a result of either business relocation or wetlands creation. This project is anticipated to last up to 16 years. Sherrerd Steele, President of ePhase, indicated that “We are so proud to be recognized as one of the leading providers of Phase I ESA services in the Philadelphia area by the award of this important contract!”
